knitting for haven

Trying to find something fun to do while in lockdown? Want to make a difference while you're doing it? Why not pick up those knitting needles and join us as we knit squares to crochet together into blankets to gift to Haven Pregnancy Support! These beautiful, loved up, special blankets will be donated to babies and mummas across our community. How good! Keen to join us and knit some squares? Check out the instructions below:

  • Specs: cast on 30 stitches on 4mm needles, using dk wool (not acrylic!).

  • Knit in garter until you have a square. You can measure it by taking a lower corner and reaching it to the opposite corner without stretching. If it is a perfect triangle, it’s a perfect square.

  • Cast off loosely! The cast-off edge should be as stretchy as the cast-on edge. Too tight and they make the blanket pucker. Some knitters find it easier to use a larger needle to cast off.

  • All knitted squares can be kept with you until Alert Level 2, when we will organise a drop off at Windsor Park Baptist Church.

To spice things up a little, we'll have a prize for the person who knits the most squares to spec!  Well, what are you waiting for - let's get knitting!
