Help us support a community in urgent need!

On March 28, 2025, a powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar, Thailand, and surrounding regions, leaving devastation in its wake. Thousands have lost their lives, many more are injured or missing, and entire communities—especially in rural areas—have been left without shelter, infrastructure, or support.

At Windsor Park Baptist Church, this disaster hits close to home. One of our own pastors, Roi Nu Maran, who serves with our Waiheke Island Baptist Church community, is originally from Manje Village in northern Myanmar. Roi Nu came to New Zealand as a refugee, fleeing the ongoing civil war that is devastating the country. She is part of the Kachin ethnic group, and while she has lived in New Zealand for nearly 17 years, her heart remains closely connected to her homeland.

Manje Village, where Roi Nu grew up, has been severely affected by the earthquake. Among the damage, the village’s only church—Manje Baptist Church—has been destroyed. The building’s structure is unsafe, the bell tower has collapsed, and the surrounding area is heavily damaged. For a village of around 745 people, over half of whom are Christians, this church has been a vital spiritual and communal hub, not only for Manje but also for three surrounding sister churches.

What makes the situation even more heartbreaking is that many rural areas like Manje have received no aid so far. In addition to the earthquake’s destruction, the region continues to experience violence due to ongoing military conflict. Access to food, shelter, medical care, and communication remains extremely limited.

With the rainy season quickly approaching in May, the urgency to rebuild and restore safe gathering spaces—like the church—is critical.

The heart behind this appeal:

Together, we can help rebuild!

We're inviting our church family and wider community to respond with compassion and generosity. Together, we can support emergency relief and help rebuild the Manje Baptist Church. Your donations will go directly toward:

- Emergency aid for those affected in Manje Village
- Rebuilding the local church to restore hope and connection
- Providing essential supplies and support for long-term recovery

Most importantly, we ask for your prayers—for the people of Myanmar, for the Kachin community, and for Pastor Roi Nu as she grieves and supports her people from afar.

If you feel led to give, donations can be made via the Windsor Park Baptist Church bank account via the button below.

Thank you for standing with us. Your generosity and care will bring light and hope in a very dark time.
